This week we cover the only Algerian winner of the Best Foreign Film Oscar and one of the most scathing indictments of nationalism and fascism ever put to film. We're talking Z (#3 on the board), the not so veiled political allegory by Greek filmmaker Costa-Gavras. This one is well worth a watch leading up to the 2024 election as a great reminder of how fragile the line between freedom and tyranny can be.

We're back baby! After a far too long hiatus we're back with our episode on 1984's Oscar Best Picture winner, AMADEUS (#7 on the board). This one is possibly the furthest apart we've been on a movie (the only other contender is MOULIN ROUGE), choose your side cause you're almost definitely going to fully disagree with one of us.

This week we get a completely new flavor of a previous DBMN director as we cover Akira Kurosawa's 1952 film IKIRU (#2 on the board), the character study of a man who feels his life has been wasted in its devotion to bureaucracy. This one could not have held up better despite being more than 70 years old. Thank you to previous guest Graham Waldrop for putting this one on our radar.
